Race Traitor?
In reference to the Armstrong William situation, Michelle Malkin posts on her blog the horrifying reality of how those on the left really feel about those who disagree with them. She demonstrates the terrible manifestation of their rage when the Liberal’s opponent is an ethnic or religious minority. This kind of argumentation is a well known logical fallacy of the following form: “If you disagree with me you must be either of two things: evil or stupid. Which is it?” The dirtiness of this argument, which is an effort to suspend any further intellectual discussion by calling into question the interlocutor’s ability to honestly engage in that discussion, coupled with the inability of those who engage in it to approach those of differing opinions with any degree of deference or desire to engage in true, open-minded dialogue is shocking. It flies in the face of these writers’ underlying assumption: Liberals are intellectuals who know better and Conservatives are Jesus-freak idiots who are out to make a quick buck no matter the consequences. Furthermore, Conservatives from racial minorities must be evil because they ought to know better. The argument assumes since Mrs. Malkin by birth comes from a “protected” category, she cannot by nature or through honest intellectual effort come to political ideas that are Conservative. To quote Mrs. Malkin's writings:
"Progressive" cartoonists Ted Rall and Jeff Danziger mocked President Bush's national security advisor Condoleezza Rice, who is black, with caricatures of her as a "House Nigga" (Rall) and a thick-lipped, bare-footed Prissy character from "Gone With the Wind" (Danziger). A writer for the militant open-borders publication, La Voz de Aztlan, assailed conservative author Linda Chavez and me as sellouts and complained: "Both are married to Jews, both are Republicans and both are being utilized to attack Mexicans and Mexican-Americans."
Some other examples come from Sister Talk, including a racist and offensive caricature of Armstrong Williams and reference to African-American Conservatives as “good little soldiers,” who presumably cannot think for themselves. These are perfect examples of some Liberal’s inability to treat political opponents as honest actors who have come to their political beliefs through honest means.
I only hope that Liberals of this stripe soon realize that the continued chanting of the mantra “Vote for me, stupid,” will not win them any friends and will not secure them elective office.
