    Liberal Racism and Condi Rice

Michelle Malkin presents some interesting links dealing with liberals' reaction, cartoonists in this case, to the ascention of Condi Rice to Secretary of State. Mrs. Rice is often pictured in ways that would make someone sick with the implied racism if the context were different. Republicans, when talking about cutting welfare or other social programs, are often accused of the ever amorphous symbolic racism. However, liberals, who should know better, given their supposed greater sensitivity on the subject of race and racial depictions, are given a free pass to make the must inane and unfair characterizations using the most blatent and offensive racial attacks.

Political cartoons are, of course, not about fair characterizations. How could anyone possibility fairly and accurately represent all of the particular facets of a policy problem in a one frame drawing? However, the examples Mrs. Malkin links to are clearly outside the bounds of good taste because they use Mrs. Rice's race as the primary subject of humor. Mrs. Malkin writes

As Dr. Rice's star rises, expect even uglier attacks. There's nothing the Left hates more than a "person of color" who is a person of substance and stature and intellect and independence first.
